The Fender website describes the Super Champ X2 amp in the following way:
“Your rehearsal and recording sessions will really come alive with the unlimited tones that can be created with the Super Champ X2combo, which takes one of Fender’s most time-honored amps and ushers it into the present with updated style and modern modifications.”
In this edition of Kelster Von Shredster presents, Kelster takes us on an in-depth tour of this killer little monster of an amp, putting it through its paces and demonstrating what it can really do. He has a special treat for us because his amp is the 2020 Limited Edition, Super Champ X2 with the Rajin Cajun speaker, in the Fawn Wheat finish.
He will you show you all of the incredible tones it can produce using the software designed specifically for accessing those tones and other special add-on features. Unfortunately, the software is no longer available from Fender website. If you decide to buy the amp for yourself, try to get your hands on the software for an ever more immersive experience.
Don’t let its small size fool you, this little tube amp can really wail. It features 15 watts of power and a 10″ speaker, one 12AX7 preamp tube, two 6V6 power tubes, and a solid state rectifier. It is able to recreate 16 different amp voicings, 15 effects with level control and has a USB port which allows you to connect it to your computer.
There are 2 selectable channels with a wide range of controls, including two volume controls, channel selector, Gain, Voice selector switch, treble and bass adjustments, as well as an FX adjustment switch. You get one 1/4″ input and one 1/4″ line out connection, plus two parallel 1/4″ speaker jacks (one internal and one external). An optional footswitch is also available.
All of this is packed into a tiny 15″ high x 17.5″ wide x 9.2″ deep (38 cm x 44.5 cm x 23.3 cm) package, weighing only 24 lbs. Amazing because my Vox AC15 has very similar specs but weighs twice as much (at least) and is a heck of a lot bigger. Honestly, I prefer my Vox but this little amp really does pack a punch and is quite impressive.
It’s available at all of the places you would usually expect to find a utilitarian amp such as this, including Amazon, Long & McQuade, Steve’s Music, Sweetwater Music, L.A. Music, and Musician’s Friend. A brief check on the Long & McQuade, Sweetwater and Amazon websites reveals a reasonably good level of satisfaction from past customers, with reviews of around 4 stars and higher.
I hope you enjoy this video and as always, comments are always welcome and appreciated.
